Utility: Farm manure digester will reduce lake pollution

Vermont’s largest utility announced Tuesday that it’s working with farmers to build a manure digester in St. Albans that will turn cow manure from three farms into electricity and reduce phosphorous pollution into Lake Champlain.

LCBP Seeks to Develop Urban Stormwater Guidance Document

The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) announces a Request for Proposals (RFP) for services to develop an urban stormwater guidance document for municipal officials in the U.S. portion of the Lake Champlain Basin. Up to $43,400 is available for this project. The successful applicant will also provide education and training to incorporate cost-effective runoff reduction techniques in the routine upgrade and maintenance of existing stormwater management to enhance water quality initiatives.

Agency of Ag releases draft agricultural water quality rules for public input

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets (VAAFM) has released a draft copy of the Required Agricultural Practices (RAPs) for a period of public comment which will run through December 18, 2015. This is a pre-filing period which will afford the opportunity for all interested stakeholders to review the Draft RAPs and provide initial comment before VAAFM will formalize the draft this winter and will then enter into the formal rulemaking process in the spring of 2016.
