Burlington Bike PathBurlington Bike Path

Burlington’s Waterfront Bike Path is a 7.6 mile recreational route that runs from the southern end of Burlington at Oakledge Park to the northern end at the Winooski River, where it connects via the newly constructed (spring 2004) bike path bridge to the Colchester Bike Path. The Bike Path rides along the Lake Champlain shoreline, offering wonderful views of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains to the west. The bike path links six major waterfront parks, along with the Burlington High School and the central Waterfront district.

Making the Lake Champlain Islands a Biking Destination – video

Making the Lake Champlain Islands a Biking Destination

Vermonters got to experience a taste of the islands, the Lake Champlain Islands, that is at the Islands Farm and Food Festival.

Families could enjoy food and music, plus farming education programs.

This year, festival organizers reached out to cyclists to strategize how to better make the Islands a biking destination.

“As a result of an economic development forum that was held in the Islands in February, when a group of residents said you know, one of the most important things we can do for the economy in the islands is to build on a reputation as a great biking destination,” – Emily Bodecker, Executive Director at Local Motion.

The local motion bike ferry operates seven days a week until Labor Day.

Rehabbing the Burlington Waterfront Bike Path- Video

Update on Rehabbing the Burlington Waterfront Bike PathThe next step in rehabbing the Burlington Waterfront Bike Path is underway. City leaders met to discuss a renewed recreation path in the Queen City.

Ground broke last year on phase one of the rehab and now plans are moving forward. The path will be re-aligned in some sections, moving it closer to the water, the surface will be re-paved, more signage will be added, and up to 14 “Pause Places” will be added along the path to create more recreation and relaxation options.

This video looks at plans and progress of the project.

“It’s just like riding a bike.

Which is to say that it is not like running or skiing. Or sitting at a desk.

But in addition to utilizing far different muscles, I’ve found that the onset of spring cycling season offers a number of lessons; especially for those lucky enough to spend that season on Lake Champlain’s Adirondack Coast – a place I call home.

So, for your convenience, I’ve compiled a list of those lessons. And in no particular order, here are my Top 5 Tips for Spring Biking along the Adirondack Coast: …..”
